Are you overdue for a quick getaway? How about during the Easter break? Here is a 4 day itinerary that would surely recharge anyone’s batteries:
Fly or drive in, whichever suits you best. Zadar is less than a 6 hour drive from Vienna, or less then a 2 hour flight from any of the Western or Northern European cities. Escape the continental cold and experience the warmer climate of the Dalmatian coast.
On average, the temperature in Zadar will vary from a low of 12 degree’s to a high of 16-18 degree’s. With over 13 hours of daylight, and on average 10 hours of sunshine per day. It’s certainly a great getaway from the cold of the northern winters.
For those who don’t arrive too late, we would recommend dinner in Zadar. For those aficiado’s of pasta we would recommend the Bruschetta restaurant, Try their ‘Fuži pasta with beef’ or homemade ravioli with prosciutto, rocket and cream. Or try their fish dishes, you cannot go wrong. (http://www.bruschetta.hr/en/menu/)
If you’re more for meat dishes we would recommend Harbor Cook House. Be it one of their burgers, pork ribs or dry age beef steaks – it will surely fill any appetite. (https://harbor.hr/menu/)
Or if you’re a vegan, try the Botanist restaurant. Arguably one of the better Vegan restaurants in Croatia. (The Botanist | Zadar | Facebook)
Both restaurants are located in or around the old town. Take a walk before or after your dinner, enjoy in the sounds of the Zadar Sea Organs whilst the colorful ‘Monument to the Sun’ works its magic in the background.

In Zadar, and Bibinje, Good Friday is an important spiritual day. Family is a key component of the day. As so is the menu – strictly fish.
For those visiting Bibinje, it’s certainly one of the most impressive days of the year. Especially the Good Friday procession. It should not be missed, no matter your faith. For this reason, Good Friday should be spent in or around Bibinje.
For dinner we would recommend the fish restaurant of Matanovi Dvori. Less than a 10 min drive from O’live Residence. Enjoy in traditional fish dishes such as ‘bakalar bianco’ or sea bass on the grill, with a local white wine either a Pošip; Malavazija or Maraština. (See https://www.matanovi-dvori.hr/en/)
The Good Friday mass start around 18:30, with the procession starting around 19:30. Moving from the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the old town of Bibinje. The beginning of this procession date back to the 16th century, it’s a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. Some call it the procession of fire!
It’s time to take a tour off the beaten track! Less than 40 mins away from O’live Residence, you’ll find the Velebit Mountain range. Where the Mediterranean meets continental Europe. It’s a unique mountain range that has a lot of secrets to reveal.
Take a full day guided safari tour through the Velebit Mountain, and you’ll have memories to last you a life time. Find out what flora and fauna can be found in this unique micro climate. Enjoy the breath taking views overlooking the Adriatic sea. And enjoy a typical Croatia bbq on the highest points in Zadar.
The best part, all from the comfort of your own Land Rover 4wd. Let the guide and 4wd do the work for you. And best part, lunch is included!
Your Getaway this Easter should be topped off with a visit the old town of Zadar on Easter Sunday. A perfect time to take a guided walking tour of Zadar, to unlock all of its secrets. From the sarcophagus of St Simeon, to the Museum of Ancient Glass.
During the course of the early afternoon make the walk up the 180 stairs of the St Stošija bell tower, Visit the 5 wells or find the nearest café and sit and watch the world go by.
Ensure to pre-book your Easter lunch in Zadar. Be it fish or meat, or whatever may be your fancy?
Late afternoon, early evening, visit the Degarra winery. It is located on the outskirts of the old town. Approx a 20 minute drive away. https://degarra.com/en/ Degarra has a great selection of whites, red and sparkling wine. Let yourself be won over by the beauty of Croatian wines.
Depending on availability, organize a late check out with Tereza. For those travelling by car, ensure to fit a visit to the Plitivice lakes on your way home.
If you’re thinking of visiting during the April or May period, let us know. We’d be more than happy in creating an itinerary that would help you make the most of your time in Croatia. Drop us a line.
